hi,
I am planning to move out of home and i am interested in gardening. I will be renting so therefore most of my plant will be in pots, i am interested in growing herbs and colour flowers and ferns that are cheap and overall easy to maintain.
any tips about soils types, fertilises, herbs, types of colourful flowers that are cheap and easy to grow in pots.
i'm in australia and i would prefer someone who knows the climate down her in nsw nearly summer.
thank you.
Need advice from a person with a green thumb?
hi im the aussie youre looking for.i also live in nsw australia.if growing in pots use a good quality premium potting mix.if you can get hold of Martins premium potting mix i find it the absolute best.it has everything from coir to trace elements.petunias are the best for colour and can be bought in mass lots at the moment.they come in a range of mixed colours.fishbone ferns are tough as and can withstand a certain amount of dryness.try a cocos palm.they grow out in the open in this climate and are excellent pot plants.philodendrens are a good one also.as for herbs it all depends on what herbs you use otherwise the list is endless.from your common mint to comfrey, thyme to oregano
Reply:Get this book: The House Plant Expert by Dr. D. G. Hessayon. It will provide you with all the info you seek and more! It's a great book.
Reply:Not sure about your climate, I live in the US but , herbs need alot of bright light, miracle grow fertilizer and potting soil are cheap and work the best.
If you want to grow herbs indoors buy seeds. Basil, parsley, rosemary, cilantro are all very easy to grow from seed but need bright light. Basil blooms pretty white flowers. Not sure about the rest but they all produce seeds that you can save and plant next year. Good Luck to you hun!
