I am not much of a gardener...actually not at all...but I would love to have a garden...please tell me which are the plants/flowers that are low maintanence, even if I dont water them daily will thrive and bud...I love creepers...I am going to Lowe's tomorrow to buy some plants...or is there better stores to buy cheaper plants?...
Thanks gardener's out there.....
Low maintanence plants/flowers?
It depends on where you live and the light requirement.
My favorite low maintenance plants/flowers:
Lamium Purple Dragon
Daylily
Liriope
Heuchera
Geranium
Bearded Iris
Asiatic Lily
Oriental Lily
Peony
Azalea
Hosta
Fern
Bleeding Heart
Lowe's has nice selection of plants and their prices are very reasonable too, I love to go there and look for plants. Other store that has cheaper plants is Walmart, just make sure the plants that you buy are healthy and not dying cause they tend to care less about their plants.
Reply:It depends on where you live so that is a difficult question to answer. I would recommend going to your local library to see if they have some books about gardening for your area. Or, better yet, contact your local extension agency. They usually have brochures and hand-outs on various topics. They are usually really helpful.
Lowe's is a good source for plants if your store takes good care of them. You might also check to see if you have some locally owned nurseries. The people there can also be helpful.
Reply:Vinca and pachysandra are two ground covers that seem to need no maintenance, besides some watering if you have a few weeks with no rain.
For low maintenace flowers, day lillies need practically no help. Tulips are easy but don't keep flowering well over the years. Hardy geraniums keep plugging with just occasional watering. Asters about the same.
Reply:IVY PLANTS DO NT REQUIRE A LOT OF TLC, I WATER MINE ONCE A WEEK AND PLUCK THE BROWN LEAVES OFF WHEN I SEE THEM. IVY'S ARE ALSO EASY TO TRANSPLANT. WHEN I CLIP MY PLANT TO SHAPE THE CUT OFFS I GET I REPLANT AND THEY GROW LIKE MAD. BEGONIA'S ARE ALSO A THRIVING PLANT, AND EASY TO CARE FOR AND TRANSPLANT ALSO. ALOE PLANTS ARE ALSO EASY TO THRIVE AND TRANSPLANT AND GOOD FOR BURNS AND BOO BOOS TOO. GOOD LUCK BUT THESE DO SUCCEED CUZ MY THUMB IS FAR FROM BEING A GREEN ONE SO I CHOSE THESE PLANTS BECAUSE THEY DO NT REQUIRE A LOT OF ATTENTION
Reply:I love Geraniums. They love the sun and can stand heat. Also, they can take abuse...like not enough water and pouring coffee or tea into them.
When the leaves start to fade just break them off at the bottom of the stem...
They are hard to kill and therefore will save you money!!
Good Luck,
Kris

Reply:Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. There are a variety of low maintenance shrubs and flowers that are available to you. I would recommend to go to your local nursery or garden center first. Most nurseries and garden centers have a wide range for you. Talk with the nursery people about what you have in mind. One thing to look at when you are selecting plants is to lift the plant and look at the bottom of the container. If the roots are hanging out, the plant needs to go into the ground soon. (it might of also been in the container too long)
I am not sure what zone you live in but also consider herbs. They are easy to grow, have many beautiful flowers and can be culinary or ornamental. There is the creeping Rosemary, creeping Thyme and creeping Mint.
There are a lot of evergreen shrubs also such as many kinds of Junipers, Artborvitaes, and Cypress. I will link you to the gallery of plants section of my website. There are a variety for you to look at as well as descriptions and zones. There are also some more plants in the variety or more plant specimen section. I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. Browse through as there are many articles, tips and techniques that may help you with your garden project. If you need further suggestions, please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to help you get your garden going. Best of luck to you, and have a great day.
