What flowers will be in season for my wedding in August?

I have a cream and green theme and would like to use this in the flowers. We are doing the table decorations ourselves so any tips would be great. If anyone can give us ideas for cheaper options that would be great too - ive eaten well into my budget !!! Help !!

What flowers will be in season for my wedding in August?
most plants flower in august (summertime) don't worry you will have plenty to choose from.A pearl of wisdom for a happy marriage is, be happy and never stop snogging, when you do the rot sets in.
Reply:I am a wedding floral designer. Most flowers are available in August except things like Lilac, daffodils, tulip, and maybe a few others. Most flowers can be shipped here from Holland or South America, so at the right price, you can pretty much get what you want. Flowers like hydrangeas, roses, lisianthus, stock, stephanotis etc, are grown all year round somewhere.
Reply:Gardenias!! The great "big" August Beauty ones should be in bloom depending on where you live. You could just buy the plants at Home Depot or something and cut the blooms yourself. It would help save money on the flowers, plus you could plant the bushes at your house (or at someone else's house if you're in an apartment or something). It would be a wonderful reminder of your wedding every year when they bloom. My mom did the flowers for our wedding and just bought plants from the garden center to use for the greens in our arrangements, I still have one of the plants that she cut greens from.

You can also try looking online at wholesale florist places, or if you have a Costco or Sam's club nearby you can save tons on flowers there. I get 2 dozen roses at Costco for $14.99.

Congratulations and best wishes!!!
Reply:All I know is that Gladiolas are the Birth flower for August(whish is one of my FAVORITES) I am assuming because that is when they bloom, but I am not positive. They come in many different colors and are VERY beautiful. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Reply:A lot of flowers are available all year long, although spring flowers like tulips and calla lilies are more expensive if you'd want these after the spring season. For an affordable alternative, make your centerpiece with just a combination of different foliages - ferns, italian pittosporum, seeded eucalyptus, variegated ivy, etc. If it's a night time reception, use tea lights around your centerpiece. If it's a lunch reception, use ivory and green rose petals around the centerpiece.
Reply:roses, gladiolas, lilies, carnations

I know fresh flowers are preferred, but have you considered using silk flowers for your centerpieces? With everyone eating and dancing in a room which is usually dimly lit, most people will not look close enough to know whether they are real or silk. It is very easy to make up arrangements yourself and most floral craft shops will be glad to give you tips, since you're buying your supplies there.

I also think a centerpiece of just 2 long stem roses standing together inside a slender clear vase with glass beads would be elegant and pretty. You could add tea lights around them as well. Congratulations!
Reply:Colourful ones.

Which flowers are cheaper?

I really like calla lilies or green roses for my wedding bouquet, but the calla lilies seem to be a little pricer... which bouquet-appropriate flowers are the best value? Do you know where I can find a list of price per stem?

Which flowers are cheaper?
I don't know exactly what colors you are planning on using, but we just had a fall themed wedding this past october. We actually used artificial flowers because they tend to be cheaper, and you can keep your boquet. If you are interested in fall flowers, mums and sunflowers are also great to use. I wouldn't think that they should be that expensive either. Contact a few local florist and check their pricing. You might also be able to go in and look at pictures of boquets that they have done in the past and they might be able to give you approx. prices as to how much different ones are. You may also want to even consider going with artificial flowers. If you chose this and you or someone you know is crafty, you can save money by doing the arrangements yourself or even check out local craft stores that have people who do arrangements and check their prices too. Good Luck and Best of Wishes (i know wedding planning can be stressful and expensive)
Reply:I think both should look equally nice, though I've never seen a green rose before. If you wedding is in the summer, and you only need a few callas, may i suggest you grow your own? It's not that hard, and they grow really easily. I paid about $5 for my calla bulbs, and they should provide you with about 5-10 blooms each corm if you grow them well. You can order calla bulbs at most online places (look for the Lain name 'zantedeschia') for not that much. There is also a greater selection of colour if you would like to grow your own, such as Crystal Blush or Z. aethiopica (the giant calla)
Reply:Price varies according to season, but calla are always more expensive than most other flowers. Decide on which florist you want to use, then go in and discuss it. I am a florist.

Fresh cut flowers in Boston area?
The floral departments of the larger chain grocery stores run weekly specials on cut flowers, or seek out a Farmer's Market in your area for locally-grown flowers.

Is it cheaper to go into a store to buy flowers or order them online.?

I need to have them delivered in my area on Monday. Could I get a better deal if I actually go to a florist's shop as opposed to picking them out online?

Online, http://www.flowersbloom.com is good
Reply:I always will support the local florist over an online retailer. I've been burned every time with poor quality flowers purchased online/over the phone. From now on I'll only purchase what I can see, smell, and hold.
Reply:i'd say it would be better to go into a store. that way you could see what your buying and you dont have to pay shipping! =]
