Do you think using fake (silk) flowers will look cheap?
I am not sure what I am going to do yet but wanted some input from other brides-to-be. I love the idea of having them for ever and getting to use different colors with the cost not going up.
What do you think about using fake flowers?
I am using "fake" Flowers! I have a friend who is a florist and she is doing them for me and I get to see what everything looks like ahead of time(so if there are Any changes or I don't like something it can be changed!
The one thing I have heard almost all brides complain about is there was something wrong with there flowers! Ribbon color, wrong flowers, they were closed and suppose to be open, the wasnt enough of them etc........you get the idea!
Plus I have seen almost all "real" flowers wilt that day, become brown around the edges, before the reception even starts those real petal on the table look horrible buy the time your done eating!
You cant even tell my flowers are fake! Plus for all those brides who use real flowers and have them "dryed" I have a little news for them it is expencive and a they use the same stuff that they use for kitty litter! It is just in a dust form! So really your spent big buck for kitty litter!
Best wishes and good luck in all your planing!
Reply:I used fake as did my sister. My sister then had her bouquet framed in a flat frame, and then the glass is blown out in the middle. It is gorgeous. It was less expensive, I had family and friends over one afternoon and we made them together, and I got to keep them just as gorgeous as our wedding day.
Reply:High quality silks are fine and it's nothing new.
If you plan on throwing a bouquet those I think should be real.
Reply:Try making a "test " bouquet and see what you think. If you are happy with it, then this is all that matters! Your the bride, and it's your bouquet!!
Reply:I think that it's a great idea. If you want to save money and have a keepsake, silk flowers are the way to go. I think I personally would go with fresh flowers, just for the sake of tradition (and to have a florist select and arrange the flowers). But, it's your wedding and you should do what will make you happy, especially if you want to be able to look back on your bouquet years from now.
Reply:I think silk flowers are really pretty.
I am using real for the flowers im holding along with the bridesmaids. But for the isle runner and on the tables im using silk.
good luck and congrats!
Reply:When my best friend got married and my Mom got remarried they both used silk flowers. They looked great and they both have used the bouquets as display pieces ever since. As I had done with my bridesmaid bouquets too. They are perfect fine to use and don't look cheap at all.
Reply:If you pick them up from Wal-Mart or the Dollar store....yeah they are going to look cheap and scream "fakes!" from across the room (and in your pictures)
If you get the high quality place from craft stores like GardenRidge or Hobby Lobby....nobody will tell the difference without getting super close.
We are using silks for a few reasons. The time of year means there aren't many real flowers in season, I can get a better range of colors, cost about 1/3 of what real flowers would have to begin with (probably less because I shop the 50% sales), afterwards I will sell my arrangements (except for maybe one or two) and get even more savings, people like my HTB have allergies to many types of flowers, I don't have to worry about the smell getting overwhelming when picking my blooms
Reply:We married this past May, and I used fake silk ivory english roses that I bought at Pottery Barn 10 YEARS AGO!!! They looked gorgoeous, and my maid of honor caught my bouquet, so she went home with it-she was sweet and offered it back to me, but I told her I want her to have it for good luck. The rose she carried went to me, and I have it on my nightstand.
GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Reply:As long as they're nice silk flowers, and not the cheap, crappy KMart kind, they'll be fine.
I had fresh flowers for my bouquet and the flowers decorating the church and reception. But the bridesmaids flowers were silk because we couldn't get the kind of flowers I wanted in fresh. They looked really nice.
Reply:I used silk flowers for my wedding and it turned out beautifully plus I saved so much money. Having your bouquet ahead of time also saves some stress.
Reply:im using silk flowers....im allergic if theres alot of flowers around...so i guess real brides don't have allergies according to avis ;)
I say go for it!
Reply:i don't think they would look cheap and tacky if you went with a fine quality. it is has lots of advantages like getting to keep your flowers. In fact, I'm getting the mother of the groom a silk corsage because she prefers the silk ones instead of the real ones.
Reply:I like the idea of functionality. If you go to a better crafts store, you will be surprise how well they perfected this craft. You may want to tie an expensive looking ribbon or crystal to ump it.

Reply:I think it is a great idea. We planned on using real flowers until she said $300 and we are on a budget. We ended up spending $35 on our silk flowers for everyone including a few decorations. The girls bouquets were $1 each and yes I said $1 and we brought two for each girl just incase it didn't look full enough for them. Hope this helps.
Reply:I'm Jewish and in a Jewish wedding you have like a wedding canopy that you stand under, and we used fake flowers to decorate the poles that held that up. I thought it looked good. We were on a tight budget. My wedding was wonderful and there is nothing about it that I wish I had done differently.
Reply:Real Brides only carry real flowers.
There is nothing beautiful or fragrant about a silk or faux flower. Silk or faux flowers have their place BUT they do not belong at a wedding.
In lieu of buying silk flowers consider purchasing fresh flowers, at a substancial savings, from some of the "web direct buy flower sites" or through club discount stores like Sam's Club or Costco or BJs.
You will never regret carrying a bouquet of real flowers down the aisle and you will always regret carrying a bouquet of silk flowers down the aisle.
