What are some of the cheapest, yet beautiful flowers for a wedding?

Our budget isn't very large at all, and I need to find the cheapest flowers, but I don't want them to LOOK cheap, either. I'm looking for something possibly in the purple and/or pink family color-wise, as well as white. I really love stargazer lilies and calla lilies, but they are rather on the expensive side. Anyone here know of flowers that can look very similar to them, but are much cheaper? Please let me know. Thanks.

Reply:We did our own flowers and it was very cheap and a lot easier than I had imagined. We used calla lillies and stargazer lillies with some filler flowers (pom poms). We bought the flowers from: www.theflowerexchange.com and I could not have been happier with them. They were wonderful.

Reply:Alstroemerias are what you're looking for. They come in a gazillion colors and are really inexpensive. The link below has pictures of all the different colors.
Reply:I went in to a florist and she was so helpful with these same questions. Tell them that you like calla lilies and ask for something that would be similar. If you stay away from typical wedding flowers, you will get them for cheaper. I love stephanotis and because they are very common wedding flowers, they are able to jack the price way up.
Reply:Depending on what time of year your wedding is, there are many options for cheap flowers. I don't know if you were looking for flowers for a bridal bouquet or centerpieces or maybe even both...but one suggestion for centerpieces is to use square vases with one or two flowers floating in each. The square vases are trendy, and if you are using just a floating flower they will be cheap! some flowers that look good floating are dahlias or orchids.





as for calla lillies, there are mini calla lillies that are cheaper and just as beautiful! stargazers are going to be expensive no matter what time of year, and its hard to find flowers with color as beautiful as those. tell your florist that you are looking for something bright and vibrant. I reccomend dahlias, they come in some of the brightest, beautiful colors. they aren't usually too expensive either.

Reply:You could do what my Mom did - one rose stem for herself and her maid of honor, tied with a ribbon. Her colors were maroon and white, so with Mom's white dress she had a red rose and white ribbon. My Aunt had a maroon dress, white rose and red ribbon.





Carnations are good, especially white ones because they can be dyed. (It's actually a really popular thing to do here for graduations. The florist keeps the stems in food-colored water and the flowers absorb the color.)





Look through magazines for ideas and take clippings to the florist. Let them know what you're looking for, what your budget is, how many bouquets, boutonnieres, or corsages you'll need and where your venue and pictures will be. That way they'll know how hardy the flowers will need to be and what you can afford. Oh, season and time of day, too since that may factor into availability. Anything that's in season will be less expensive. Roses around Valentines, Mother's Day or the Rose Bowl? Forget it.

Reply:I don't know if you have a SAM's CLUB in your area..but you can totally get fresh flowers in bulk and they are GORGEOUS and CHEAP!!





You of course would have to arrange them and put them in vases and stuff..but it would be beautiful and not expensive!

Reply:I LOVE stargazer lilies but unfortunately they're so delicate that the florists advice against them.





They can do spray roses in any color you want... They're often cheaper then regular red roses and smaller. But they can be JUST as beautiful! I had them for my senior prom and it was THE MOST beautiful arrangement I had ever seen! I was so surprised! So I think I will go that direction for my wedding.

I can’t name for you all of the flowers I had, but the only thing that didn’t wilt/brown on me were the calla lilies (the most expensive, naturally!). This is my bouquet:

I’d blame my troubles on the fact that I was out in the sun for a couple of hours, but my bridesmaids’ weren’t and their flowers suffered the same fate. My florist also didn’t tell me how small he would have to make my bouquets in order to meet my budget, and I was not pleased. To save money, do some internet research yourself to find out what’s in season (and thus less expensive) when you’re getting married. When you meet with a florist, give them your budget and ask for suggestions on what flowers would work. If wilting, browning, and bouquet size matter to you, make a point of telling your florist (I thought I did…). Even better, try to get a clause that you’ll get a refund if they don’t meet your expectations. I wish I had!

Reply:carnations, gerbera daisies, gardenias, daffodils, zinnias, sunflowers, daisies and baby's breath to name a few. You can also use fruits, glass marbles, and candles for a stunning look that won't eat too much of your budget.
Reply:Try to find a wholesale florist in your area. I found one that did weddings and did gorgeous flowers for a fraction of the cost if I had gone to a florist. Roses in bulk actually are cheap but look gorgeous.

Reply:Have you considered silk flowers? This is what I did for my wedding and I saved so much money. My bouquet was off white calla lillies and turned out beautiful. Picking them up weeks early also saved me some stress.
Reply:Carnations are beautiful and not too expensive. Don't go with calla lilies they are ugly, expensive and have been done to death.
