Its a 5.0 Mega Pixels Samsung Digimax A 503. It has a different focus setting for plants, (a picture of a flower you can change the lens to) but it doesn't help much.
I have a cheap 5megapix digitial camera, and I'm having trouble taking close-ups of plants in focus. Any tips?
Most cameras have maximum depth of fields. Close up pictures are normally taken with special lenses attached to the tip of the camera lens. With only your existing digicam, you can try, making an adjustment to your cam's distance from the image object until you get a much clearer pics, which normally would not provide your desired pix up close in which case use an additional lens attachment to your cam's lens. Close up lenses are just like a magnifying glass that are readily available in photography stores in your neighborhood and they are quite affordable too.
Reply:you have to activate the "macro" function of the camera for you take good pictures in close range. check the manual on how to acitvate it. Also, check for the maximum tolerable distance for close up shots, it should be in the manual.
Reply:Is this an SLR or point-and-shoot? If it is an SLR, then you can buy a macro lens. That is the lens for super close-ups like you need with these photos of plants. With a regular lens you can't focus on something that close. If it is a point-and-shoot, you won't be able to take macro photos. Sorry, if that is the case. You should get an SLR - they are much more versatile.
Reply:Sorry to point this out but the flower icon on a compact is the macro setting!! If you want to go macro you will need a proper DSLR with a proper macro lens! Compacts just dont cut it.
Hope this helps :)
Reply:Look in your instruction booklet and see what the closest focus is for your camera. You can then cut a piece of string that length and measure the distance before you shoot.
You can get fancy and make frame from a coat hanger and you can attach to your camera that is just a little larger than the actual area the camera will see and make it stick out from the camera to the distance closest focus. The A 502 is 2cm (just under an inch)
