What does everyone think of silk flowers for a wedding are they really cheaper??

I think they're tacky - sorry

What does everyone think of silk flowers for a wedding are they really cheaper??
Silk flowers have come a LONG way in the past few years. They are beautiful if you get the high-end ones. However, because they are so much nicer these days, they aren't really all that much cheaper anymore. Sometimes a single rose stem could cost as much as $6-$9.

But you can also purchase fully-made bouquets at craft stores that are very nice. Some are quite plain and designed to be the base of a bouquet where you add some special touches on your own with ribbon, additional flowers or greenery.

However, if you watch for sales and shop with coupons, you can find some bargains. Micheal's and JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby all have great floral departments and often have flowers for 50% off. Otherwise, they almost always have a coupon in the newspaper for 40% off any single item.

Plan what you need well in advance and purchase flowers slowly as they are on sale or when you have a coupon.

One of the main benefits of using silk flowers is that you'll be able to assemble them several months ahead of your wedding day and you can get one more thing crossed off your list early.

Good luck!

Reply:They are cheaper, another alternative is wooden flowers, they look so real, no one will be able to tell they aren't! Check out www.bergodesigns.com or www.woodyaflowers.com for pictures and examples, and it you use them, tell them Sarah from www.lovewithnoboundaries.com referred you. Best wishes!
Reply:Kelly dear, I would not have them at my funeral ,let alone my big day...........spend some more and buy real flowers. If you want to keep them you could have them dried and will last you a life time.
Reply:I think they are fine to have, if that's what you want. They can be cheaper, but there are also very high end ones!

I just think it's lovely to have fresh flowers at such a special occasion as a wedding.
Reply:Funny - it's probably the only detail I actually care that much about. Real flowers always look better!

The more realistic-looking silk flowers can be almost as expensive as real ones - and they still don't look as nice. If you want to save money on flowers, you can have a simple elegant boquet and center pieces consisting of just a few flowers. For instance, your centerpieces could be single red roses in vases. Your boquet could be a couple of roses or orchids. Lovely, elegant, simple, and not obscenely expensive.
Reply:I had silks at my wedding and they came out beautifully and di not look cheap at all.

I had my bouquet makde of silks and you can't even tell it's silk.

Check this site out, I have seen a lot of their work and it looks so real you have to touch it to believe it, and it's reasonalby priced too.

Good luck!
Reply:well they are. I just got married but I got mine from a famers market and they were beautifl and real!

I love real flowers can not to the fake silk ones... no way...tacky as hell!
Reply:We just used silk flowers for my sister's wedding and they turned out gorgeous. We did everything in silk except for the mother's corsages...they ARE cheaper %26amp; nowdays can look just as elegant as real ones. Look online, many companies will offer to mail you free samples of petals and such.

Good luck, Lynn
Reply:Maybe a littel cheaper.Silk would be fine for everyone except the bride. She needs to have a beautiful fresh flower bouquet. The one she tosses can be silk.
Reply:The silk flower that most people think about do look cheap, but there are really nice and realistic silk flower that very expensive and will last a lot longer then real flower, i guess it depends on what you want to spend.
Reply:i like the silk flowers. they have improved quite a bit from the past. they are cheaper at some places. they do last if that is what you are mainly looking for.
Reply:Actually they can be more expensive, but on the upside, they LAST! You will be able to look at them and smile for a very long time!
Reply:Maybe they are cheaper. But I think that the flowers will lose some of their charm. They won't smell...and they look fake.

Personally, I'd rather use inexpensive real flowers than any silk flowers.
Reply:The quality of silk flowers has come a long way in the past several years. I've seen some bouquets that I would have not believed were silk until I actually touched them. You will find that using good quality silks can be just as expensive as real flowers. It is just whatever you prefer.
Reply:YES, they are cheaper, and it's totally up to you. Some people swear by real flowers, and couldn't imagine deigning to have silk flowers at a wedding, but then they just die, and something as momentous as your bouquet is shriveled mess. So, it's all about what you want.

You could always save money on the big arrangements, by doing silk for centerpieces, or a huge bouquet on stage for the ceremony.....and put out the money for smaller things like bouteniers %26amp; bouquets.
Reply:I think fresh flowers are prettier, but it's YOUR wedding, you have to be happy with your choices and what fits in your budget.
Reply:Silk/ fake flowers have come a long way. Sure some look obviously fake while others can easily be mistaken for real. It will really depend on which type of flower you go with, which colors, and how they are arranged. You can find them on sale a lot of times at places like Pat Catans or Joann Fabrics Right now they have a huge sale on all their summer and spring silk flowers so they are at least 70% off.

On the other hand real flowers can be a HUGE expense in a wedding budget. It again depends on the flower you pick and how they are arranged. I've seen some really nice bouquets with just a couple of flowers or even one for the brides maids. I think the key is to get real flowers in season.

When it comes down to it it is a personal preference and both can be amazing and reasonable. Be practical remember less is more and keep it simple! You can do a lot on a little with the right choices! :-) Happy flower shopping!
Reply:I was going to use silk flowers for my wedding in september however i learned of different wholesale flower websites and I am paying about 550 dollars for myself my 6 bridesmaids and my 12 centerpieces. Its really worth it to look into those websites. You have to put the arragements together but i've practiced and it looks great. Just use some creativity and you'll be fine. I used www.growersbox.com. Their customer service is really great and helpful.
Reply:It depends. If you get nice, high-quality silk flowers they can look lovely and can do things you can't always do with real flowers. But the good silks cost just as much as the real ones. The cheap silks tend to look very fake.
Reply:They have some pretty ones.I would get some satin spray finish to make them shine a little
Reply:This is you day to splurge, Girl get some real flowers, if you cant afford real flowers you might as well just go to the court house, because trust and believe people will be whispering about how cheap those silk/plastic flowers made your special day.
Reply:I just got married July 14th and used fake flowers and they turned out beautiful, and nobody could tell they were fake, and they were a lot cheaper than the real ones.
Reply:Silk flowers are cheaper and more practical. Actually, I don't understand why people would buy real flowers nowadays! They're soooo much more expensive and they're just going to die anyway! Just think, with silk flowers, you can keep your bouquet forever and ever! Don't listen to people who say they look tacky. Half the time, people can't really tell. Good luck!
Reply:I think I should start by saying it depends on where you get your silks. I agree with some opinions that picking up a bunch of silks from the dollar store that scream "FAKE" from across the room is tacky. However, there are really great fakes at places like Garden Ridge that you can't even tell are fakes until you touch them.

As far as if silks are cheaper, that depends on a number of factors. My wedding is in Fall and there are not many flowers in season at that time (I am not a rose fan) in my wedding colors so any real flowers I wanted would have to be hot house grown and imported from somewhere.....very expensive. If you are having a spring wedding there are tons of flowers in season (not to mention using a gorgeous live flowering plant and letting guests take them home for their gardens) so you have a better chance at getting fresh flowers within your budget. If you are into exotics like Calla lillies silks are almost always going to be cheaper.

Another thing to consider when deciding silks vs. fresh is:

*some people have allergies to real flowers (like my HTB)

*if you aren't careful and choose many fragrant flowers the smell can get overpowering

*real flowers can wilt depending on the conditions of your location

*if you are having an outdoor wedding real flowers can attract bees

For my wedding we have some amazing quality silks for the reception centerpices and the boutineers. We will have real flowers for all the boquets....If I had a bigger budget I would have liked fresh but given hubby's allergies silks were definately best.
Reply:I personally thought they looked cheaper. I went to the local craft stores and looked around, held flowers together and it just didn't look good enough. I'm not going to get all done up in my beautiful dress and veil just to hold craft store flowers.

there are online businesses that arrange flowers for weddings. I checked them out and wasn't impressed by their arrangements.

in the end, I decided to go with real flowers, but really limited what we got. we just got my bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets, that was it. it cost $400. no one noticed that the guys didn't have boutonnières and the moms didn't have corsages. and we used candles for the centerpieces at the reception. our church had lovely flowers left over from the Sunday before and we just left those up.

so I say get real flowers, but just stick to the stuff people will notice, and skip the flowers no one cares about. you really just need your bouquet, even if the bridesmaids aren't carrying flowers, who cares? or just have them carry a really small bouquets.
Reply:My sister got married last spring and asked me to find her inexpensive flowers for her bridal bouquet, ceremony decor and reception decor. I found www.afloral.com. We found a beautiful white gardenia wedding garland that we were able to hang across the ceiling of the reception hall because it was so cheap. They also had bouquets for all the girls in the ceremony flowers for the pews including clips to hang the flowers, white roses which we placed in julep cups and placed around the church. We ended up spending around $500 for a ton of flowers. My aunt even thought we spent over $10,000 for our wedding decorations and offered to help with the cost. She was blown away by the fact that in total for decorations we spent less than a $1000. The wedding was great. She thanks me for finding the site every time we sit in her family room and look at the flowers displayed on her fireplace mantel.
Reply:Go to Proflowers online and get an entire package for between $250 and $1,500. They are top quality and delivered right to your door in any variety and any color you could possibly want. Don't use fake.
Reply:Fresh flowers are so much better! Fake flowers look cheap no matter how expensive they are!
Reply:if they are good quality ones its fine, if not they look really tacky
Reply:they are tacky - sorry its your special day so everything should be perfect
