How much should you spend on wedding centrepieces? would you grow your own flowers?

i wana have vases that are stuffed with brightly coloured flowers.

how much did you spend on your centrepieces? is it cheap to grow my own flowers?

How much should you spend on wedding centrepieces? would you grow your own flowers?
Before I would ever go through the headache and expense of growing my own flowers I would look to a florist or even a local chain like Costco. Growing your flowers may seem cheap, but in order to get the size and quantity you want you will need to work in the garden daily, fertilize, water, protect against infestations...the list goes on. It would be MORE expensive to grow your flowers.
Reply:I think I'll be spending $5/ table. I bought really cheap faux petals on ebay and tealights at the craft store. I'll grab the river rocks myself for free.
Reply:If you want brightly colored flowers use carnations. You can make them any color you want, they are very hardy, and very inexpensive. Or just use fake flowers. There are many other alternatives to flowers that can be used in a centerpiece as well that are cheaper.

Unless you are an experienced florist who has grown flowers for years, I wouldn't do it! The hassle involved in that is tremendous. What happens if they don't grow? Then you won't have enough time to have a florist create your flowers and then you're screwed!

You are going to have so much else to worry about, having to water, feed, clip and create your own flower centerpieces is not going to save you any time or money.
Reply:I am using fake flowers and making my own centerpieces i would say I am probably spending about $8 per centerpiece. It would be pretty brave to grow your own flowers. If they didn't grow right or died before the wedding you would have no flowers. I would either get a florist or do your own using fake flowers. Good Luck! :0)
Reply:if you know how to put them all together to make it look nice, then why not grow your own. i dont knwo if its cheap or not, but its definetly cheaper then going to the florist for the same stuff..

my center pieces i think cost close to 100$ per table...
Reply:maybe cheap if you grow them from a bulb or seed. If you have time grow some Dahlias, they are big and colorful, I think they are a bulb. You can put them in the freezer for 2 weeks then take them out to trick them into thinking its spring.http://www.dahlias.com/index.asp?PageAct...
Reply:I have $300 in my centerpieces alone (10 arrangements) but the florist is letting me rent all the tall eifel vases so I'm getting my money's worth. I think it's well worth my money to just have someone else have the stress of putting those together. To me weddings are all about the flowers so I wanted a bunch and for them to be perfect. If your having a small outdoor wedding if you catch the season just right you could grow some beautiful wildflowers. Just have a backup plan in case things don't go as planned!
Reply:Don't grow your own flowers. You can order from Costco or florist at close to whole sale prices... then arrange the flowers yourself.

I spent $5.00 on my center piece. $10 if you include the vase. I had 5 calla lillies in each vase, with a small batch of bear grass. Then I scattered red rose petals around the bottom of each vase. My florist thought the rose petals were a little 'odd'... but later commented that the red petals 'brought together' the entire arrangement and set it apart from the white linens.
Reply:I actually found a banquet that had center pieces already with my colors which was cool. But if you cant fnd one like me just buy the vases at the dollar store and buy the flowers at the store.
Reply:Do not grow your own flowers. I relied on a family friend to do my flowers, and my sole responsibility was to store the flowers that I bought from a grower the day before the wedding, in a refrigerator until the next day, when the centerpieces would be assembled, along with the bridal party flowers. First off, I don't know how the heck we fit all those flowers in the fridge... we really truly needed like 3 refrigerators comfortably. It was such a pain, and after everything, I would have been glad to spend the money to have a professional do everything. It was such a waste of time and very aggravating to worry about this with everything else going on. And frankly, growing your own flowers sounds even more stressful and like something you just shouln't do unless you are in fact, A GROWER. LOL What happens if they don't look right? Try to find replacement flowers at the last minute! Impossible!

You will likely spend between $60 and $100 per centerpice, but it all depends on the vase and the type of flower. If you want to save money, confer with the florist and take recommendations as to what type of flower is in season and cheaper at that time. Or- if that florist is doing another wedding, ask what type of flower they are using and see if you can use the same one so that the florist gets a deal from the grower and can pass those savings on to you.

Another idea is to ask your florist how much the vases will cost if you buy them through her. Then do your own internet research, and possibly buy your own vases and bring them to the florist in advance. Places like Michael's, Target, and KMart are great places to shop for things like that.

Congratulations and Good luck!
Reply:If you have a green thumb then go ahead and grow your own flowers. I think it would put a nice personal touch to the wedding. If you want bright colored flowers the Kroger I go to have dyed daisies that come in pink, blue, green, yellow and they are insanely bright. It's only $6 for a bundle so you may want to consider something like that.
